In my opinion, the free WordPress themes from Astra and GeneratePress are in the “top 5” best free WordPress themes, and may even be the 2 best overall free Wordpess themes … judging from my own personal experience, both the free Astra and free GeneratePress themes are noticeably more advanced and reliable than the free WordPress.org default themes.

The free themes from Astra and GeneratePress both offer a sufficient amount of advanced features – enough to allow a WordPress Developer to build a fairly advanced & reliable website for free – excluding hosting fees & domain name.

As an added bonus, you can even extended the functionality of both the free versions of Astra & GeneratePress for free by installing the free version of the Elementor Page Builder … by adding the free version of the Elementor Page Builder technology to either the free version of Astra or GeneratePress, you will have the platform to build a surprisingly robust & feature rich website entirely for free – excluding hosting fees & domain name.

It’s my opinion that the free Elementor & free Astra or GeneratePress bundles are among the most powerful free web development platforms available to the general public today – and this applies to any free C.M.S. system on the market today.

It’s also my opinion, that if your going to use a free WP theme; do not use one of the free WordPress.org default themes … based upon my own personal experience, the free WordPress.org default themes lack alot of features compared to the free Astra & GeneratePress themes … and I’ve found that some of the free WordPress.org default themes are not entirely technically reliable when used with some of the more advanced Elementor features.

From a longer-term perspective; Both the free Astra or free GeneratePress themes make top choices because if you ever decide to go with the Premium Versions of either theme, both are backed by companies with pretty solid track records in the area of customer support … and the premium versions of both themes offer great extensibility in the area’s of customization and scalability.

While free is great … if you do require support, the free versions of Astra, GeneratePress, and Elementor, come with little support from the Vendors … you’ll need to upgrade to the Premium Versions of the software for reliable & quick customer support … the cost to upgrade to the Premium Versions are all reasonably priced in my opinion.
